Doris Gómez

For Baxter Renal Care Services, knowing the people who are part of our team is very important and above all knowing what they have to say, that is why, on this occasion, we wanted to speak with someone whose daily work is essential, this is Doris Gómez Sánchez, Head of PD and this is what he told us:

  1. Tell us a bit about your current role and what do you do at RCS?

Doris Gómez: "Well, I currently have four hours of management and four hours of peritoneal dialysis, this role, at first was a bit complex while one "gets the thread" but, it has many advantages because I am passionate about the clinical part and the fact Having access to the entire administrative part gives me a plus, because I can have an answer for things that come up on a daily basis in clinical and administrative matters”.

  2. Tell us, when did you join Baxter? And what brought you to Baxter or how did you find out about the company?

Doris Gómez: I've been in the company since April 1, 2016, about four years.

Well, when I was specializing in nephrology, I had the opportunity to rotate through the RCS clinics, through the renal units, and it became like a target for me, (RCS) was where I wanted to work. I finished my specialization and fifteen days later they opened the call, I applied, I did the whole process and here I am”.

  3. Take us in your words through a typical day for you here at RCS.

Doris Gómez: “Well, first, I arrive at the renal unit at 8 am, now with the COVID issue, it is admitted through the Triage and normally at the end of the month, what I am used to as leader of Peritoneal Dialysis is to map everything that I have to do. schedule for the whole month and thus meet the objectives of the Peritoneal Dialysis program.

So I normally do Peritoneal dialysis from 8 to 12, with scheduled topics, call them line changes, retraining, training new patients and I am in charge of inducing patients who have just been diagnosed with kidney failure so that they make the decision to start what therapy are they going to have?

  4. Are you the one who guides them in that process?
Doris Gómez:“Let's say that I let them know what peritoneal dialysis is, what its advantages and disadvantages are, and the same with hemodialysis, and well, it helps them make the best decision, taking into account the characteristics of the patient, their network of support, from the economic part, because that also plays a very important role in making this decision.

I think that these inductions are one of the most important things we do because although it is true that the patient has just been diagnosed, he has been grieving, he suffered a loss and well, you also have to have a little tact to know how to reach them in the best way. and that they can understand that they require this therapy, but that this therapy is going to be pleasant and they are going to achieve a good quality of life”.

  5. Why did you decide to pursue a career at RCS?
Doris Gómez: “Because it gives me the opportunity to grow as a professional and as a person, I believe that if I grow in these two areas, then I will be a successful person. Here they give one the opportunity to grow, for example, in the agency I have developed leadership issues and that has made me grow in different ways”.

  6. In your own words, what is work/life balance like for you?
Doris Gómez: “No, well, I'm happy, that's the word hahaha. Well, yes, I am happy with what I do, let's say that I am passionate about nursing, so I live happily in my work and I go home happy with my duty fulfilled. My work doesn't affect my family and my family doesn't affect my work because I've managed to maintain a balance”.

  7. Doris for you, what is the most satisfying part of working at RCS?
Doris Gómez: "My work team, also the stability it gives me, the continuing education they give me because that keeps me updated, I think that gives me a plus."

  8. And those things make you want to stay or what is it that motivates you to stay in RCS?

Doris Gómez: “Yes, I think that how consolidated the company is makes me fall in love with it and that makes me stay, continuing education as I was telling you because I learn more and more things and I don't know, the work team… It makes me very happy to have the team of work that I have today”.

  9. If you could give a message to all the members of the company and they would listen to you, what would you say?
Doris Gómez: "That we are in the best place to work and that although it is true, that depends on ourselves and always giving an extra mile."
